But when a pregnant woman called Riggins repeatedly asked Walmart for a reassignment for the sake of he

The accommodation policy that Walmart announced in March appeared to be a critical step forward; in announcing the policy, Walmart got rid of a previous discriminatory(歧视 的) rule that had clearly stated that no pregnant workers were qualified for reassignment, even as Walmart made re
20、assignment available for workers with non-pregnancy-related disabilities. But Rigginss story and the stories of other Walmart workers around the country indicate that, in fact, this new policy has fallen far short. Indeed, over the past six months, we have continued to hear again and again from Walm
21、art workers who asked for an accommodation while pregnant after the company had announced its change in policy, and they got nowhere. Apparently, ambiguity (不明确) at the heart of Walmarts new policy continues to harm pregnant workers. Under Walmarts new policy, it is not clear whether Walmart would a
22、llow a pregnant employee to carry a water bottle if she had a doctors note indicating she needed it in order to stay hydrated and avoid potential pregnancy-related complications. Thats because she might not be able to show she had a pregnancy-related “disability”. Without this accommodation, this wo
23、rker would be forced to either harm her health or leave work, sacrificing her economy security. Walmart should take this opportunity to strengthen and fully put its pregnancy accommodation policy into effect to provide accommodation for all workers with pregnancy-related medical needs, regardless of
24、 whether they are considered to have a “disability”. A clear, properly implemented policy of providing accommodations for pregnant workers who have a medical need for them isnt just the right thing to pregnant workers and their families, and its also the right thing to do for business and our econom
