10、hout mentioning one man. He has devoted his life to Chinese martial arts. As a martial arts lover, Pewee Russian was determined to change his countrys perception of Chinese martial arts, seen by many as a violent foreign culture. Against all difficulties, Russian devoted his life to learning Wushu a
11、nd by the late 1990s he was becoming an expert. At that time, fewer than five people in the entire country were taking an interest in Wushu, he says. As a boy, Russian lived with his foster parents, who attempted to distract him from martial arts. He found it tiring and challenging, to keep his mind
12、 on Wushu. They told him that learning martial arts was a dead end, but nevertheless he persisted. When civil war began ravaging the country at the end of 1990, it proved a setback for his Wushu studies. When the war was over, after more than 15 years, Wushu was almost extinct. However, Russian stil
13、l carried the passion in his heart. One of the things that really drew me closer to Chinese martial arts is the discipline, the culture - it makes your mind disciplined. I think Wushu is my calling, he says. In 2010, the Chinese embassy in Monrovia awarded him a short-term study course at the Shaoli
14、n Temple. When he returned to his country in 2011, Russian led efforts to establish the Liberia National Wushu Association. He won an international medal on behalf of his country in 2016 at the Zhengzhou International Shaolin Wushu Festival. Since then, as a master, he has been inspiring others to s
15、hare his enthusiasm. Russian is now the face of martial arts in Liberia. However, Russian still regrets failing to attend the Beijing Olympics in 2008. He was the third best martial artist on the African continent that year but lack of finance kept him away from the games. To make up for this lost o

20、nce to a beat is so noticeable to an individual that a computer can now identify us by our unique dancing fingerprint. Researchers at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Music Research at Finlands University of Jyv skyl have been using motion capture (动作捕捉) technology to study what a persons dance move
21、s say about his or her mood, personality, and ability to sympathize. They recently made an accidental discovery while trying to see if an ML machine, a form of artificial intelligence, would be able to identify which kind of music was playing based on how the participants of the study were dancing.
22、In their study, the researchers motion captured 73 participants with the AI technology while they danced to eight different music genres: electronica, jazz, metal, pop, rap, reggae, country, and blues. The only instruction the dancers were given was to move in a way that felt natural. But what it co
23、uld do was more shocking. The computer was able to correctly identify which music one of the participants was dancing to 94 percent of the time, regardless of what kind of music was playing, based on the pattern of a persons dance style. It was the movement of participants heads, shoulders and knees
24、 that were important markers in distinguishing between individual. It seems as though a persons dance movements a kind of fingerprint. Each person has a unique movement signature that stays the same no matter what kind of music is playing, said Pasi Saari, a co-author of the study, in a class. Its p
25、ossible that dance-recognition software could become something similar to face-recognition software but it doesnt seem as practical. For now, researchers say that they are not as interested in possible surveillance (监视) uses of this technology, but rather what the results of this study say about how
